Agnieszka Balewska completed the High School of Fine Arts in 1986, and graduated with distinction from the University of the Arts, Poznań, in 1993, where she studied painting under Professor Jerzy Kałucki and drawing under Professor Jarosław Kozłowski. In 1995 she was awarded a Young Creator’s Scholarship by the awards committee of the Poznań City Culture and Arts Department / also she was awarded in 2021r.

Her work encompasses sound-and-dance performance, painting, drawing, computer graphics, object-and-space art, and art criticism. She has authored several dozen publications, including books as well as texts for her Duck-Tak Verbal Gallery. In 2002 she gained a doctorate in cognitive and communication science at the Institute of Cultural Studies, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań.

She has had sole and joint exhibitions in Poland and abroad, in locations including Poznań, Warsaw, Łódź, Kraków, Szczecin, Gdańsk, Słupsk, Ustka and Tarnowskie Góry, as well as Frankfurt (Oder), Bonn, Hannover, London, Nottingham, Tokyo, Brussels and Hengelo. Her work has been seen at more than 30 joint exhibitions and 50 individual exhibitions. She has published art criticism in journals, periodicals and arts magazines in Poland and abroad. She was a member of the editorial team of the magazine Arteon. She currently writes reviews of visual art exhibitions and critical texts for the promotion of artists.

As an artist and holder of a humanities doctorate, in 2003–2004 she gave lectures in arts theory as part of a course in Aesthetics and Art Criticism at the University of the Arts, Poznań. She published an essay and catalogue titled Formy Eidetyczne (“Eidetic Forms”) and a volume of poetry called Pieśni Czarnowłosej (“Songs of the Black-Haired Woman”). In 2004 she was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. She also published three “Narratives on Art” and brochures titled “The human disease – the great hospital of the world” and “The Day of Important Forms”. In 2005 her doctoral thesis was published in Paris, under the title “Metonymy and metaphor in relation to the phenomenon of object art”. She also initiated the Duck-Attack Creative Society. In 2007 she received a scholarship from the Marshal of Wielkopolskie Province. Until 2013 she ran the Duck-Tak Verbal Gallery and chaired the Duck-Attack Creative Society. She designed a progressive therapeutic programme based on art and movement called Daga Dance. She received two further scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2010 and 2014.
