Arkadiusz Gieniusz
Graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts, Master of the Faculty of Sculpture. A young artist whose work references the Renaissance era. In contrast to trends in contemporary art, his artistic endeavors focus on craftsmanship. The artist rejects quick, often vulgar and simple solutions in favor of detail and actual skills. His classical drawings remain in dialogue with the work of Leonardo da Vinci. Like the master, Arkadiusz Geniusz meticulously observes nature. In his work, he maintains a realism that he lovingly combines with Platonic ideals. The papers are carefully primed using a classical technique – water baths in bone glue with the addition of pigments (ochre, umber, raw sienna). The line he employs is delicate and soft. His gestures are not accidental; they are sensitive and refined. In both his drawn portraits and sculpted busts, precision and the character of the observed model are preserved. The tools Arkadiusz Gieniusz uses are high-quality pencils in shades of graphite, sepia, and sanguine. The pencils are lightfast – they do not fade in sunlight, ensuring the colors are permanent. Inspired by the era, the artist pays attention to traditional creations and hairstyles, while also allowing himself a touch of contrariness in hair styling. Ornamentation in his drawings is also an important element. The floral motifs used by the artist are contextual, with their own meaningful justification in culture, much like scents, fragrances, and color.
