Bożena Wahl

Bożena Wahl was born in 1932 in Warsaw. She is a Polish painter and social activist. In 1957, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where she studied under Eugeniusz Eibisch. Her works have been exhibited in solo shows in Warsaw, Paris, and Stockholm, and are held in the collections of the National Museum.

Bożena Wahl also worked as a set designer for Kabaret Starszych Panów (“The Elderly Gentlemen’s Cabaret”) and for Teatr Telewizji (Television Theatre). She designed costumes for films such as Tanie pieniądze (1985), Choinka strachu (1982), and Markheim (1971). Her paintings have been admired by renowned artists such as Zdzisław Beksiński, as well as by prominent European and American gallery owners.

In 1979, Bożena’s sister, Alicja, founded the Alicja and Bożena Wahl Art Gallery, located in a villa in Warsaw’s Old Żoliborz district. The gallery exhibited works by some of Poland’s most distinguished artists, including Jan Lebenstein, Zdzisław Beksiński, Franciszek Starowieyski, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (“Witkacy”), Bruno Schulz, Jacek Waltoś, Jerzy Stajuda, Jan Dobkowski, Barbara Jonscher, Jacek Sienicki, Teresa Pągowska, and many others.
