DISPLAYS: He was a painter, graphic artist and draughtsman in the Romantic period. Goya was the court painter of Charles III, Charles IV and Ferdinand VII of the Bourbons. He mainly created portraits and genre scenes commemorating everyday life. The artist's style evolved from baroque and rococo, through neoclassical academicism, to pre-romanticism and pre-impressionism. Goya was characterized by sweeping movements applying paint on the canvas. In the case of selected works, one can even say that the artist was moving towards abstraction and surrealism.
