Grzegorz Pabel
Grzegorz Pabel was born in 1940. He graduated with a degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, in the studio of J. Cybis (graduating in 1965). Two years later, he became a lecturer at his alma mater, teaching painting in the Faculty of Interior Architecture as an assistant to Rajmund Ziemski. During the martial law period, he was the creator of "underground" exhibitions. He participated in the "Akcja Walizka" in 1983, and showcased his works at church-related exhibitions: "Through the Visible to the Invisible" and "Meetings with Art," with a particular connection to the parish on Żytnia Street in Warsaw. In the early 1990s, he served as the vice-rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and since 1992, he has been a professor.
Grzegorz Pabel was awarded the Jan Cybis Prize for 2023. An exhibition honoring the Laureate will take place in October 2024 at the Gallery of the House of the Visual Artist at Mazowiecka 11A in Warsaw.
