Jakub Słomkowski
Jakub Słomkowski is a painter, illustrator, musician and installation creator. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (diploma in painting in Krzysztof Wachowiak's studio in 2007). In 2004-2005 he studied at the Department of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid. Member of the NZTB Association, Program Council of the ArtWalk gallery, informal artistic groups Time New Roman, FreeBloopGroup, organizer of the cyclical event Dinner at Huta (since 2007).
His work oscillates between abstraction and symbolism. In his works, he looks at how the Sacrum and Profanum sphere affects the human imagination, and also looks for ways of communication between the animate and inanimate world. He is interested in apotropaism. The leitmotif in his work is space occurring in many parallel orders.
Since 2010, he has been composing music for Iza Szostak's performances. He is the creator of the Andy Why music band and the duos Kubatwiceimprovise and Sicarios Unidos. Since 2019, Jakub Słomkowski has been creating an individual musical project I AM SORRY DAVE. In 2022, together with Rafał Smoliński, he created music for the animation Airborne by Andrzej Jobczyk, which received the award for the best short animation during the prestigious and Oscar-qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2022. Winner of the Oknoplast for Art competition.
