Joanna Pawlik was born in 1974, lives and works in Kraków. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (studies at the Faculty of Painting in 1994-1999, diploma in the studio of Prof. Leszek Misiak).

She works with painting, drawing, photography and video. Joanna Pawlik's work oscillates between the issues of social mechanisms of exclusion and personal spaces of feeling. She is an artist focusing on exploring her own emotions, finding understanding between the roles of the artist and mother, for whom her own experiences and inner life become the materials from which she builds her projects.

Author of many individual exhibitions (including "Balans" Bunkier Sztuki, Krakow; Economics of Utraty, Galleri 69, Oslo; Walk, Czarna Gallery, Warsaw 2009; Bez Śladu, Otwarta Pracownia, Krakow 2006). Joanna Pawlik's works have also been shown at many group exhibitions, most recently at the Fotogalerie WUK, Vienna; DOX Contemporary Art Center, Prague. Winner of awards, distinctions and scholarships, including: a distinction at the 37th Bielska Jesień Biennale in 2005, the main award at the Rybie Oko 5 Young Art Biennale in 2008, a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2013, a scholarship "Young Poland" in 2010, Trust For Mutual Understanding, (award), USA in 2010, 18th Street Arts Center residence, Santa Monica, USA in 2010.

Joanna Pawlik's works can be found in private and public collections, including in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow (MOCAK), the collection of Bunkier Sztuki in Krakow, the collection of Piotr Bazylka.
