Maciej Lachur
Maciej Lachur (1927–2008) was born in Zagórz and passed away in Otwock. He was a painter who studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Since 1952, he had been a member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers.
His paintings were primarily focused on Jewish themes, although he also enjoyed creating portraits of women, particularly nudes, as well as still lifes and other depictions. At times, he reproduced works of renowned artists, including the Siberian episodes of Jacek Malczewski. His preferred medium was oil painting.
One of the most recurring motifs in his art was the portrait of a rabbi. His works are characterized by elongated, slender figures with ascetic features, reminiscent of figures found in Byzantine church decorations. He frequently employed a vertical composition and a muted, cool color palette dominated by shades of gray. His paintings also stand out for their distinctive texture.
Beyond painting, Lachur was also involved in animated filmmaking. Together with Zdzisław Lachur, he founded the Animated Film Studio in Bielsko-Biała.
His artworks can be found in collections such as the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw and the District Museum in Bielsko-Biała.
