Tadeusz Makowski
Tadeusz Makowski was born on January 29, 1882 in Oświęcim, died on November 1, 1932 in Paris. In the years 1902–1906 he studied classical and Polish philology at the Jagiellonian University, and in 1903–1908 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in the studio of J. Stanisławski and J. Mehoffer. At the turn of 1908 and 1909 he went to Paris, where he remained until the end of his life. He was inspired by cubism, and after World War I returned to natural forms under the influence of Władysław Ślewiński. His work manifests the style of naive realism and is characterized by symbolism. He composed lyrical scenes with exaggerated characters, often showing reality in a primitive and geometric way. He also dealt with graphics, primarily woodcuts.
