Vasyl Martynchuk, originally from the Rouna region in Ukraine, lived and worked permanently in Grodno, Belarus. He drew inspiration from these regions, which is reflected in the style, themes, and colors of his paintings. He specialized in romantic expressionism in his painting.
Other themes in Martynchuk's work included Greek and Roman mythology, which he uniquely combined with the folk motifs of Eastern Europe. Although the artist favored easel painting, he also experimented with other techniques such as watercolor, silk painting, and batik. He created beautiful items of functional ceramic art and unique sculptures that remained stylistically and thematically in the "Martynchuk style." The painter perfectly merged Greek mythology with folk elements of Slavic culture.
The artist participated in numerous exhibitions and art plein airs. His works were exhibited in France, Japan, Germany, and multiple times in Belarus, as well as in Ukraine, Russia, and Lithuania.
The artist's works are found in many galleries and private collections.
