Witold Abako

Born in Łódź on March 30, 1958. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. In 1984, he obtained a diploma in the studio of prof. Leszek Wajda, Andrzej's brother. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he worked as an interior designer and architect in Poland and Germany. During this time, he created many projects: furniture, interiors and their elements, fairs and exhibitions. He also dealt with publishing graphics. He is the author of many posters, illustrations and book covers. Between 1993 and 2001 he was the Chief Graphic Designer of the Polish Music Publishing House. He influenced its visual shape with his strong artistic personality. In the years 2002 to 2007, he tried to teach young people the secrets of painting by teaching at Krakow Art Schools. Unfortunately for himself and his work, he founded and ran the PROBEO Contemporary Art Gallery in Krakow. This incident lasted from 2010 to 2011. He lives and works in Krakow. He was sometimes classified as a "young savage", which he did not fully agree with. He calls himself a "conservative anarchist".

His path of painting exploration runs in many directions: from "figuration", not necessarily "new", to "abstraction". These meanders sometimes connect, sometimes intersect. Sometimes they live their own intense lives. He exhibits rarely. His works can be found in private and institutional collections in Poland, Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Japan... it's hard to say where else. In 2015, his artistic work and contributions to the City were appreciated by the Mayor of Krakow, who awarded him the HONORIS GRATIA badge.
