Wojciech Fangor
Wojciech Fangor was born in 1922 in Warsaw died in 2015. He is one of the most famous Polish artists of the 20th century - a painter, graphic artist, poster artist and sculptor. He graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1946.
Together with Henryk Tomaszewski, he designed spatial decoration in the open air for the festival of youth and students in Warsaw. From then on, his paintings were carried out in relation to space outside the painting - as in the famous "Study of Space" from 1958, preceding the world realizations of environments.
Painting installations from the 1950s and 1960s, composed of colorful contrasting circles and waves, touched on optical problems and were close to op art. The culmination of this period was an individual exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York (1970).
Artist was teaching at universities in England and the USA. His works are in the largest collections in the world.
