Defragmentations. Agnieszka Fijał-Czapla, Ewa Jasek, Jacek Opała
Throughout history, portraits have taken on many roles and meanings, making it harder to fully understand them. As one statement puts it: "Interpreting a portrait increasingly demands our focus. Sometimes, we even need to search for meaning where, at first glance, we wouldn’t expect to find a portrait at all." "Defragmentations" is an exhibition that blends traditional and modern ideas of portraiture. The artists featured in this exhibition go beyond the usual boundaries of classic portraits. Agnieszka Fijał-Czapla breaks portraits into many connected fragments or separates them with planes of color, creating layered images. Ewa Jasek’s paintings, though detailed and clear, often feel "scattered" in space, blurring the line between reality and imagination. Jacek Opała, inspired by classical art, combines the balance of idealized forms with rich decorations and bold colors, offering modern takes on traditional styles. This exhibition invites visitors to discover how portraiture continues to evolve, honoring its history while embracing fresh ideas.
