New Mythology. The art of Arek Szwed and Grzegorz Radziewicz
Futuristic figures and mechanical deities have been an integral part of the artistic practice of Arek Szwed and Grzegorz Radziewicz for years. The artists have joined forces to present “New Mythology” – an exhibition where the story of human transformation, or perhaps more broadly, a certain supernatural being, gives rise to contemporary myths and legends. Mythologies were created as a way to explain reality. Arek Szwed and Grzegorz Radziewicz envision a world where posthumanism has become a reality, and ancient gods have been replaced by new deities – artificial, cybernetic idols carrying narratives and symbols similar to those of the past. “New Mythology” raises questions about a certain collective, a certain “we”, but does this collective define itself solely through what is human? In the artists' vision, mythology does not disappear – it evolves. Gods are now machines, digital consciousnesses, algorithms, and mystical revelations come in the form of AI-generated prophecies.
