“A great artist is characterized by three factors: head, hand and heart”
On Saturday, November 7, 2020, the opening of the exhibition by Piotr Trusik entitled “Memory Portrait” will take place at the Art in House Auction House. On exhibition we will see works from the artist’s latest series, which for him is an internal journey through emotions, feelings related to the memories of people, fragments of reality, leaving imperfect images in our memory. Blurred visions are only a small part of the real image of reality or memories, the rest is a projection that takes place in our imagination.
As Piotr Trusik says, the creative process is a very important and intimate thing.
– Everyone is inspired by different things, people and emotions. I always wonder how much the creator should talk about, reveal the details of creating his work, because sometimes, when he says too much, he may have fundamental doubts as to whether to show the work at all. While creating, I not only touch the canvas or paper with a crayon or brush. I think a lot about life, passing and myself – says the artist.
A memory portrait
The newest painting series by Piotr Trusik called “Memory Portrait” is an internal journey through emotions, feelings related to the memories of people, remembered fragments of reality, leaving imperfect images in our memory. Blurred visions are, as the painter says, about 20 percent real images of reality or memories, the rest is a projection that takes place in our imagination.
– Time goes by and we can’t help it. When I create, I do not analyze it, I leave a free path for the flow of accompanying emotions, and we cannot help it that time flows and irreversible changes take place in the course of it. When working on the matter of an image, some fragment shines more, which contributes to the distribution of this fragment throughout the image. These fragments remain in dialogue with reality and the recognizable world, confronted with my imagination and fantasy – says Trusik.
Piotr Trusik believes that sketching is very important in the implementation of these ideas. In painting, we always try to do everything to make it “good”. This is often a choked, uncomfortable truth. In the sketch, we can allow ourselves to do everything “wrong”: break it, destroy it and cross it out with irresponsible movement, or even throw it away without too much loss.
– We should appreciate these sketches. Often something happens with them that we do not expect. As if emotions were flowing through our hand by themselves, creating something direct – he explains.
As he continues, the concept of space-time can be compared to a reflection in a mirror, and the thickness of the mirror is the time boundary between the two worlds. During the process of creation, the artist creates a bit of his successive reflections and faces.
– The surroundings, the problems of everyday life, do not matter. What is born, happens and arises now is the most important thing, beyond time and place. This creates magic. I try to follow this challenge, which I am realizing – says Piotr Trusik.
According to Trusik, painting is a conscious process of building an image and throwing the web into various registers of the topic under consideration. This creates a new metaphysical path to the unseen.
“A great artist is characterized by three factors: head, hand and heart”
Trusik believes that the basis of creativity is one’s own, personal sensitivity, and the invisible is also the sincerity of the image.
– I believe that a great artist is characterized by three factors: head, hand and heart. The head is a collection of our thoughts, fantasies, ideas and content that every artist wants to show. By nature, full of an insatiable hunger for sensations, head constantly searches for and wants to experience and analyze. It is not satisfied with the appearance of things, the desire to seek what is below the surface and invisible to the eye is stronger. The hand is our unique and distinctive tool with which we can show our thoughts and craftsmanship, which we have been gifted with and which we have also worked out with billions of lines, stains and touches to achieve the workshop we currently have. When it passes the head for a fraction of a second, amazing things happen and it gives a feeling of great honesty and authenticity. In turn, the heart is the factory of our feelings and sensitivity that flows through our head and hands. The most important processes that shape us as people and creators take place here. I believe that through creativity and creation you can get rid of too much of our thoughts and observations – he says.
As he goes on to say, sensitivity as a gift can build our foundation of self-worth if we manage to adjust the world to our own sensitivity, not our sensitivity to the world.
– Creating is a kind of struggle that we undertake, and the fruit of these past struggles and work is a work that hides a complex creative process, which is undoubtedly an unusual phenomenon – says the artist.
Trusik believes that by creating, we achieve a certain area of freedom, which is always the beginning. It is a fancy communing with the world and creating new and new visual projections. I want the work to speak with itself.
– The honesty and truth of the image is not only what we see, but also what is invisible, confronted with the two-dimensionality of the image literally and figuratively. This is partly due to the fact that the image is very often hidden from less inquisitive audiences. There is no room for tinsel, unnecessary styling, empty decorating the problem when there is no such need – he explains.
