Exhibition cancelled: David Schab – The Art of Optimism

David Schab was born in 1973 in Rybnik, Poland. He currently lives and works in Bristol, UK. He studied law, he is a graduate of Political Science at the University of Silesia in Katowice. The artist attended painting and drawing classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow for two years. However, it was painting that dominated his life – the artist has been dealing with it since 1999. His favorite medium is oil paints on canvas and dry pastels on paper.

The works of David Schab are characterized by very rich colors and a strong play of light and shadow, on the border of fauvism and expressionism. His favorite subject is still life, he also paints landscapes, people and animals.

The painter has already participated in many individual and collective exhibitions in Poland and Great Britain. He sells his works mainly in Great Britain and Poland, but also in Australia, Denmark and the USA. In 1998 he worked at the Film Factory in Bielsko-Biała as the Assistant Main Animator for Walt Disney in the production of computer games.

“Great sadness” and richness of color

David Schab‘s paintings are characterized by very rich colors, they seem extremely cheerful, joyful and optimistic, although those from recent years were created in the darkest period of the artist’s life – the time he calls “Great Sorrow”:

– My family fell into disrepair, I was alone in a foreign country, I made extra money by taking care of people with mental illnesses, which only aggravated my terrible condition. Painting, which I have been practicing for many years, came to the rescue, but it was then that I felt a desire to create, difficult to describe in words. I fell into the vortex of painting. I was painting amok. Every day – says the artist.

In the process of creating, David Schab began to choose newer and newer colors, which he had never used before: bright, intense, full of life. He started to create.

– I was creating very colorful and positive images completely subconsciously. It was like the body’s defensive reaction to the world that turned out to be devastatingly sad around me. I found an alternative, better world in painting – says David Schab.

One day one of the artist’s acquaintances came to his studio and saw a few paintings hanging on the walls and on the floor by the furniture. He was surprised that David Schab did not share his work with anyone. At the urging of a friend, the painter began to publish picture by picture on social media.

– In the beginning, the reception was different: bold colors, a mixed perspective I like to use, were medium comprehensible. Many people suggested to me to change my name because allegedly the signature “Loin” in the painting irritated their eyes and “did not fit the art”. I didn’t pay much attention to it and concentrated on painting. It took me all my spare time between shifts at the hospital. I started to receive more and more positive comments from all over the world – says the artist.

Finally, the first orders from Poland, USA, Great Britain, Switzerland, Australia, France appeared, and David Schab started selling what he had painted. His daughter, who decided to stay permanently, also came to him. There were more duties, but also the new situation brought a lot of positive and good to the artist’s life. As a result, the images have become even more varied and colorful.

For two years, David Schab has been permanently cooperating with the Auction House and the Online Art in House Gallery. Other galleries from around the world also began to be interested in the artist’s work.

– I got wings, I came to life. Since then, painting and caring for my teenage daughter has been my full time. I am grateful to fate for the way he has directed my life. I have two wonderful children. My son is in Poland, but I have great contact with him. I also hope to be closer to him someday. Currently, I do what I love, i.e. I paint, in the way I like to do it, I sell my paintings – the artist lists.

David Schab is currently finishing another studies, this time at the University of Humanities and Life Sciences in Częstochowa, at the Faculty of Painting in the studio of prof. Włodzimierz Karankiewicz, a student of the great Jan Szancenbach.

David Schab‘s exhibition at Art in House

The Auction House and Online Gallery Art in House invite to their headquarters in Warsaw (Al. Jerozolimskie 107) for an opening and an exhibition of paintings by a Polish artist living in Great Britain.

The vernissage will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 6.00 p.m. at the premises of the Auction House and Online Art in House Gallery – Al. Jerozolimskie 107, Warsaw.

The exhibition will be available to visitors from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 until the end of October.

At the exhibition “The Art of Optimism“, the artist will present 100 paintings painted in the years 2015-2020. All of them were created abroad, in Great Britain, and more precisely in Bristol. They are also part of the 450 paintings created at that time. They are all made in oil technique.
