Erna Rosenstein
(born 1913, Lviv - died 2004, Warsaw)
Painter, illustrator, poet. She studied at the Frauen Akademie in Vienna (1932-1934) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (1934-1936) under the supervision of Wojciech Weiss. She worked closely with the Kraków Group (later: the Young Artists Group). She took part in numerous group exhibitions, including the famous "Nine" exhibition in Kraków in 1955 (together with Tadeusz Brzozowski, Maria Jarema, Tadeusz Kantor, Jadwiga Maziarka, Kazimierz Mikulski, Jerzy Nowosielski, Jerzy Starżyński and Jonasz Stern). Author of individual exhibitions, for example in 1967 at the Zachęta Gallery in Warsaw. Winner of the Art Criticism Award. Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award (1977) and the Jan Cybis Award (1996) for lifetime achievement.
