Krzysztof Śliwka
Krzysztof Śliwka became interested in woodcarving at the age of 14. He graduated from the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Miejsce Piastowe near Krosno (his sculpture teachers were, among others, Władysław Kandefer from Iwonicz Zdrój, Xawery Dunikowski's assistant, Bogdan Biernat, Roman Górka). From 1997. he deals only with woodcarving, ceramics and painting. He is particularly interested in sacred subjects, portraits and landscapes. He presented his works at exhibitions in: Warsaw, Rzeszów, Krosno, Jarosław, Łańcut, Jasło, Przemyśl, Iwonicz Zdrój, Budapest. Inspirations and ideas come from contact with nature, landscape, people, tradition and history. Some works feature apocalyptic, surreal elements. In woodcarving he uses various techniques, including burning, gluing from small elements, various types of wood (linden, larch, ash, oak). In painting, he uses his own technique, which enhances the texture (impasto is applied on a stiff base, which is then patinated, painted in oil or acrylic technique). He also makes foundry models (cooperation with glassworks, metal founders).
