Witold Pałka
Witold Pałka was born on November 5, 1928 in Dąbrówka Mała, died on August 29, 2013 in Katowice. He was a Polish contemporary painter.
From 1945 he studied at the High School of Fine Arts. Later he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Faculty of Painting, under the supervision of Jerzy Fedkowicz, Eugeniusz Eibisch and Wacław Taranczewski, graduating in 1953. He exhibited his works for the first time in 1955 at the Exhibition of Young Fine Arts "Arsenał" in Warsaw. In later years, the artist had ten individual exhibitions and also participated in collective exhibitions. From 1965 to 1967, he was a member of the Arkat Group and served as chairman of the artistic council of painters of the District Board of the Association of Polish Artists in Katowice. From 1966 to 1980, he was a permanent collaborator of the Commission of Sacred Art and Architecture of the Diocese of Katowice, which resulted in numerous painted decorations in temples in Upper Silesia and in other parts of the country. He was a member of the Chapter of the Golden Badge of the Association of Polish Artists.
For his artistic activity, he received many distinctions and awards, in 1965 he received the Provincial Award for lifetime achievement, in 1976 the painter was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit, and in 1995 the XXIII Silesian Award. Juliusz Ligoń. In 2008, he was awarded the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis.
Witold Pałka's works can be found in the Zachęta Gallery in Warsaw and museums in Bytom, Gliwice, Szczecin and Wrocław, as well as in the Silesian Museum in Katowice.
