In elementary school, a little after my grandmother passed away,
I went to the arcade with a friend.

Now there's a hotel there, but back then, it was just a big lawn, full of dog crap.
And a trailer with a few machines inside.
You had to climb up metal steps to get in.

We didn’t have any money, but he knew a trick.
He crawled under the pinball machine and started flipping the switch.
Each time he did, the machine would come to life for a moment, spitting out a single ball.
We could play.

After a while, the owner stood over us.
He grabbed my friend by the ear, dragged him to the door, and kicked him out.
He didn’t touch me—maybe he sensed my grandma had just died.

There was also a GALAXIAN machine there, where you flew and shot things.
