The work was made in oil technique. This is a type of painting paint whose ingredients are linseed oil and pigment. The technique of preparing and painting paints yourself requires knowledge, patience (oil paintings take a long time to dry) and practice; the effect obtained thanks to them is worth the effort due to the good durability of the image and the brightness of the colors. Oil paints have a long history, which in the case of Europe dates back to the 15th century. The first artists to use oils on board were Flemish and Dutch artists, such as Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden, who used the glazing technique (they applied semi-transparent, thin layers of oil on a monochromatic underpainting, enhancing some tones). In the 17th century, the alla prima technique was fashionable, painting "at once", often mixing oil paints on canvas and applying impasto. Supporters of this variant were Peter Paul Rubens and Diego Velazquez.
The basis for this work is canvas. It is a type of plain weave fabric that is widely used. In the case of an artistic workshop, the canvas acts as a support for the painting: it can be stretched on wooden strips, creating a stretcher, or placed on a board. The painting composition is placed on a previously primed canvas.
The artist made a painting in the expressionism style. Expressionist paintings are characterized by great emotionality and subjectivity. This direction was also inspired by psychoanalysis and the first research on sleep.
The atmosphere of the painting can be described as: passion, spontaneity. This mood is associated with warm colors such as reds and oranges and themes related to feelings and sensuality. Vibrancy can be evoked by works of art with vibrant colors and dynamic lines.
