Brain fog, otherwise known as mental fog, is a set of symptoms characteristic of disorders of the nervous system. Brain fog itself is not a separate disease entity, but only a definition of a set of its symptoms. According to some scientists, brain fog is one of the most troublesome symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). This term is used to describe a specific patient condition that may occur in the course of various diseases, e.g. celiac disease, Hashimoto's, Lyme disease, neurosis.

With the development of the coronavirus pandemic, the term brain fog is increasingly used to describe the complications of the disease. This symptom can appear after infection with any variant of coronavirus, regardless of the severity of the COVID-19 disease.
