Between earth and sky. 1st Sacrum Profanum Auction
What is the sacred? What is the profane? To what extent do the two spheres interpenetrate each other? Do angels have moments of weakness? How can you identify false prophets? Who is watching over our animal brothers? You will find answers to these and other questions in the latest catalog of the 1st Sacrum Profanum Auction – 40 works on heavenly and earthly themes will be available for auction on September 11 at 7:30 pm at the Art in House Auction House in Aleje Jerozolimskie 107 in Warsaw.
The religious theme was treated by our artists with full artistic freedom, which is why in the catalog you will find orthodox, sentimental, pastiche or highly reflective works. The first group included an icon by Ewa Jaworska, recalling the Ruthenian-Byzantine tradition; “Hellish” work by Wojciech Pelc, referring to the frescoes of the Italian cinquecent period and the academic Candlemas Mother of God Jan Dubrowin. Sentimentalism is revealed in the carefree angel on a bicycle ride by Sylwia Perczak, a sinner of Wacław Sporski; Kamil Stańczak’s trompe l’oeil composition or Andras Gyorfi’s paradise scene.

Borys Fiodorowicz, MAZEL TOV, 2020, acrylics on wooden board.
Miro Biały did not give up the pastiche language, cleverly paraphrasing the title of the famous novel by Nikos Kazantzakis; Joanna Sarapata did a similar thing, showing us that even angels have moments of crisis. Estera Parysz-Mroczkowska started a dialogue with the most expensive-sold painting in the world and with the conspiracy theory of history concerning alien demiurges; Monika Ślósarczyk allowed the nuns for a moment of earthly weakness, and Jacek Lipowczan commented on the reality with typical uncompromising attitude. You will see engaged art in Boris Fiodorowicz, whose unusual icons should always be related to the modern world.
The last items of the catalog are dedicated to lovers of sculptures: among the works you will find three angels (by Marcin Myśliwiec, Jacek Opała and Aleksander Grzybek), a ceramic saint madman made by Arek Szwed and a bronze prophet by Tomasz Górnicki.
All works will be on display from September 7 to the auction day at the Art in House premises. Be sure to see the offer live – don’t be profane art!
