“I want painting to help catch the breath”
Kamila Jarecka creates colorful and unreal representations of women set in the magic world.
– Recently someone accused me of not making references to situations and crises in such a cruel world. This is absolutely true. The internet, news, newspapers attack us with information. I prefer painting to give me breath, but also to the recipient, fill with positive energy and color – no matter if it is a girl’s smile, unreal landscape or colors of abstraction. I am happy with small things, e.g. a small sparrow, which for over a month sat on the windowsill in the morning and looked at us through the window – the artist tells us.
Adventure with fabrics
Thanks to studies at the Faculty of Textile and Clothing at the Academy of Fine Arts W. Strzemiński in Łódź Kamila Jarecka found a space for herself in applied art. Her adventure with fabrics began in high school, when she found herself in weaving classes by chance. Previously, she had not thought about such directions at all. However, fabrics turned out to be quite an interesting creative medium for her. During her studies, she got acquainted with the methods of printing on fabrics and jacquard.
– These types of studies currently offer quite a wide range of technical and design possibilities. They combine computer graphics, drawing, painting, clothing design and interior design. The designs cover all styles and can be artistic or very simple. There are no restrictions here. They require constant technical development and following fashion trends. Personally, I like to change media and techniques, so I think that this direction was perfect for me – says the artist.
“I like to come back to the female subject”
Kamila Jarecka says she draws inspiration from various sources. Currently, he deals with designing printing on fabrics. This forces her to constantly search for new products and trends. Painting allows her to catch a small breath and stop for a moment.
– I’m looking for topics that inspired me somewhere along the way. Sometimes it is the color of the city in the morning, other times photos from the trip. However, it is true that I prefer to return to the female subject. It allows me to find the somewhat surreal beauty we all need. It connects easily with other topics – says Kamila Jarecka.
In beautiful women – as the artist says – we see strength, an element of divinity, innocence, temptation, almost all contradictions. At the same time, we know that beauty will pass and no one will stop it.
