Adrien Étienne Gaudez
Adrien Étienne Gaudez was born on February 2, 1845 in Lyon, France, died in 1902. He was a student of Francois Jouffroy at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1862. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1864. He worked almost exclusively in bronze and created many sculptures on various themes, from genre scenes to military and patriotic themes. His earlier works were mostly classical in nature, but later in his career he created works that can be classified as Art Nouveau.
He was a prisoner of war in the Franco-Prussian war in 1870. Having first-hand knowledge of the war, he made a monument in honor of French prisoners held in Magdeburg by Prussian forces. The monument was erected in the municipal cemetery. He took part in the Paris Salon in 1878 with a plaster sculpture Childhood of Jupiter.
Gaudez died in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France on January 23, 1902.
