Jan Kaczmarkiewicz
Jan Kaczmarkiewicz (born 1904, died 1989) – Polish painter, art historian, teacher.
He studied art history and classical architecture at the University of Poznań.
In 1929, he made illustrations for Catholic magazines. After receiving a scholarship in 1932, he went to study painting in Vilnius, where he studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Stefan Batory University under the supervision of Ludomir Sleńdziński.
After the war, he took up teaching work in Vilnius, and after the displacement of Poles from Vilnius - in Bytom and Katowice. From 1959 he was a member of ZPAP.
He was fascinated by ancient and Mediterranean art. Male nudes and portraits of young men were a common theme of his paintings, and his favorite motifs were elements of Vilnius architecture.
