Katarzyna Kot

Biography: Katarzyna Kot Graduate of the General Secondary School, majoring in law and police. Student of the Pedagogical University of Krakow, Faculty of Painting. During her studies, she studied in the painting studio of prof. Romuald Oramus, prof. dr hab. Piotr Jargusz and prof. Cecylia Malik. Member of the scientific club and organizer of workshops for children and youth. Lives and works in Krakow. Participant of many exhibitions and symposia. Her paintings are in private collections in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Dubai, Italy and Costa Rica, among others.

art statement: I have been involved in creative work since I was a child. Painting is my passion. My grandfather, who worked in the same factory as Z. Beksiński and introduced me to his work, had a great influence on my interest in art. I started developing my artistic activity as a child in Italy. Later, for many years I painted various things on car parts with airbrushes with my dad, maybe that's why to this day I like to use cars as my large canvases. Working with animals and surreal characters and landscapes remains one of the most difficult but interesting parts of art for me. I try to observe animals every day, I am grateful that I have such an opportunity. I try to capture the character and feelings of these creatures in a beautiful, although sometimes dark landscape. Each character has an unlimited history of character, line and strength. My paintings express me, my character and my personality. I believe that my paintings give me the opportunity to look at the world through the prism through which I see it. Below is a fragment from a book by Farley Mowat, which is an introduction to the series of animal paintings.

"That evening I was lost in my thoughts. Yes, my prayers had been answered and the animals had cooperated, showing themselves to me again. But on the other hand I had been exposed to a small but nagging doubt: who was watching whom? I believed that I was to be given this honour due to both my innate superiority as a representative of the Homo sapiens species and my extensive professional training. Meanwhile, the germinating suspicion that I had been stripped of this honour and that I was in fact the subject of observation clearly undermined my well-being."

In addition to the animal figures, the motif of abstraction runs through the background of the paintings. This is a genre of art that has become close to me and still is. This year I am focusing on the subject of cats, which is close to me not only by name.
