Leon Tarasewicz
Leon Tarasewicz is an artist born in 1957 in Waliły. He is a Polish painter of Belarusian origin, and a professor of fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (since 2011).
Tarasewicz graduated from the Secondary School of Arts in Supraśl and the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw - he received his diploma in 1984 in the studio of Tadeusz Dominik. From 1996 he ran a guest painting studio at his university. He is a lecturer at the Faculty of Media Art and Scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
The artist cooperates with several Polish galleries on a daily basis. In 2008, he became the ambassador of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
In 2005, he was awarded the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis by the Minister of Culture, Waldemar Dąbrowski, and in 2011 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. In addition, the artist is, among others laureate of the Passport of "Polityka" (2000), Jan Cybis (1998) and the Zofia and Jerzy Nowosielski Foundation Awards.
