Majid Jammoul
Majid Jammoul was born in 1948 in Syria. The artist graduated with honors in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the guidance of professors T. Łodziany, O. Hansen, and Z. Demkowska. In 1987, he was awarded a scholarship from the D.A.A.D. From 1975 to 1981, he was a lecturer in the Department of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus, and later became the director of the Center for Fine Arts in Damascus.
Jammoul is the recipient of numerous awards and honors in the field of sculpture, including the 1st prize for the design of the monumental bas-relief Najha (1977), the 2nd prize for the design of the Unknown Soldier Monument in Damascus (1980), and the 1st prize for the design of the Fallen Soldiers Monument in Jaramana (1986). His works can be found in collections such as the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Dresden, the British Museum in London, the National Museum in Damascus, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Damascus, the Polish Sculpture Center in Orońsko, the Historical Museum of Warsaw, the Museum of Medals in Kremnica, Slovakia, as well as in private collections around the world.
