Gazes: An Exhibition of Piotr Kamieniarz's Paintings
"And all illuminations only open the abysses anew." These words of Martin Heidegger seem to be the perfect introduction to Piotr Kamieniarz's painting exhibition. Dark representations, where blackness, grotesque, and unease intertwine into an illustrative narrative, humor, and childlike storytelling, constitute the tale of human nature. Peculiar creatures spark interest by encapsulating both beauty and ugliness. Do they visually reflect the complexity of human nature? Piotr Kamieniarz's figures exist outside of time, yet they are not merely dreamlike images. After all, we are dealing with humanity, a nature composed of contradictions, desires difficult to reconcile, an essence living within a community, in a social system that does not allow for complete freedom and liberty and often sharply tests ideals.
