The inspiration to create the picture were photos from the expedition of Polish Mountaineers to lead a new road in the mountains of South America. Specifically in Patagonia, a mountain called Fitz Roy. The expedition took place in 1984/85 and was a success. Photos that show this charming but also demanding and dangerous mountain nature were taken by one of the members of the expedition, Michał Kochańczyk. They are made by analog technique, which is why their color and depth are so clear and vivid that they inspired me to create my own painterly interpretation of this adventure. I received scans of photos in March 2020 by e-mail. Because, as it turned out, the surviving members of the expedition began to work on publishing a memorial book and their accomplishment. I became the addressee of the photos because one of the members of the expedition was my father, a late climber, mountain climber, Jacek Kozaczkiewicz.
My painting was made in December 2020. The book, on the other hand, was released in June 2021. It contains photos that inspired me.
