This painting was painted during my artistic residence in Murano, near Venice, Italy. The architecture and colors of Venice's buildings became the inspiration for this painting. The contrast of the white of the wells and intense shades of red is like a transfer of the white Venetian marbles and the color of the plasters of this phenomenal city. I painted the openwork sculptural details of the presented well in an expressive and abstract way - for me they are a memory in constant motion. The background for the white form of the well is a red plane - it is a memory and a painterly interpretation of the structural plasters of historic buildings.By applying the paint in layers in various shades of red and green, I wanted to reflect the passage of history visible in this city.
The well motif can also be read symbolically as looking for the source - culture and history of Europe in this case. The painting was presented at my individual painting and glass sculpures exhibition at the Berengo Studio Gallery in Venice in 2007.
