The foundation of the modern concept of a flat Earth was laid by the English inventor Samuel Birley Rowbotham, who argued that the Bible should be taken literally. He published a booklet entitled Zetetic Astronomy. Later, he also published a book entitled Earth Not a Globe, in which he presented a vision of the Earth as a disk with the north pole in the middle [2]. According to his vision, the Sun and the Moon were "suspended" 3,000 miles (4,800 km) above the Earth, and space - 3,100 miles (5,000 km).
