I titled this portrait "The Mermaid" because of the fleeting impression that I had when Marta posed for me in historical interiors of Artus Court. The sun seeped through the uneven structure of old glass, producing dancing sparks on her
blue, wave-patterned dress. For a moment I thought that my model looked like a mermaid emerging from the depths right to the surface of the water.
