My Geometric Sculptures are frozen memories, joyful, but full of nostalgia about times that passed. I work with the colors, basic shapes and composition through my personal understanding of playing with memories. They are symbols of a childhood, playfulness and joy. Objects I make remind toys and carousels, like building new worlds from kids wooden cubes. These objects get more important for me, while helping to go through immigration experience.
Using porcelain as a material is intentional. The importance of the material comes mostly from my feeling about objects hidden in the cupboard in my grandma’s place. Putting them into a cupboard usually hides them from kids and stranger eyes, to keep every memory safe. Porcelain objects are still considered as a luxury. As a kid I desperately wanted to see every piece and remembered every moment we all shared with porcelain while celebrations. Freezing these objects now give me a chance to play with casting process, but also leave them untouched as an afterimage of what is left in my memory.
My focus now is to work on the colors, basic shapes and main story line through my personal understanding of memories. I get inspiration from wooden toys made in 20th century. Using primitive simple shapes is intentional to build complex structures.
