Janina Karczewska-Konieczna

Janina Karczewska-Konieczna is an artist born in 1934 in Gdynia. She is a painter, graphic artist, sculptor and ceramist. She graduated from the Secondary School of Arts in Gdynia Orłowo, graduated with honors at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in the studio of prof. P. Potworowski. The annex was made of ceramics in the works. Prof. H. Żuławska, and graphics in the works. Z. Karolak. She belonged to the "Kadyńska Group". She successfully practices painting, graphics and sculpture, but she has achieved the greatest success in the field of ceramics. She received, among others First Prize for works exhibited in France, awarded by an international jury chaired by Pablo Picasso.

Her works are in Polish museums in Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Szczecin, Słupsk, Toruń, Zielona Góra, Olsztyn, Bolesławiec, Wałbrzych, as well as in Faenza (Italy), Vallauris (France), Bechyne (Czech Republic), Jonkoping (Sweden) ), in the collection of the John Paul II Institute in Rome, as well as in the collections of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the University of Warsaw, Gdańsk, Brinelskoland Nassjo (Sweden), the City Hall of Koszalin, and Kwidzyn, and the Książ Castle.

Together with Stanisław Konieczny, she made ceramic sculptural decorations in the "Chapel of Sea People" in St. Mary's Basilica, in addition to that at the House of Technology and the Heweliusz Hotel in Gdańsk and at the Wedding Palace in Elbląg. She also made sculptures in many Polish churches and chapels.

She created thematic cycles devoted to music, ballet, exotic fauna and sea flora.

She presented her works at individual exhibitions in Toruń, Sopot, Koszalin, Gdynia, "ART Galeria" in Gdańsk, "ART" in Elbląg, Lębork, at the "Staatligher Kunsthandel" gallery in Berlin, Munich, Dubrovnik, Lübeck and Siegen . She has also taken part in many international competitions and exhibitions around the world.
