Jerzy Kossak
Jerzy Kossak - painter, born in Krakow in 1886, died there in 1955. He was the son of Wojciech Kossak and Maria née Kisielnicka, grandson of Juliusz Kossak, brother of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska and Magdalena Samozwaniec. He was a self-taught painter who, despite his father's encouragement and undisputed talent, never undertook artistic studies - he honed his talent in father's studio.
The painter had his first exhibition at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Krakow in 1910. His talent was noticed, and the Napoleonic cycle shown at the exhibition received positive opinions.
During World War I, Jerzy Kossak was on the Italian frontier. During the interwar period, he painted in the studio established by his father. During World War II and in the difficult post-war years, mass production of painted pictures helped the artist to survive. Unfortunately, Jerzy's art work quality suffered as a result.
Until the end of his life, Jerzy Kossak lived with his second wife and daughters in Kossakówka - the Kossak family home. In 1955 he was buried in the Rakowicki Cemetery.
