Jerzy Lewczyński
Born in 1924 in Tomaszów Lubelski, died in 2014 in Gliwice
A graduate of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. He calls his activities the theater of photography. With time, he focused on activities known as the archeology of photography, finding in the photographs a symbol of the battered past. In the years 1957-1960, a member of an informal photo group, together with Zdzisław Beksiński and Bronisław Schlabs. He presented his works, among others at the exhibitions Subjective Photography (1968) and Seeking Photographers (1971), Border States of Photography (1977). In 1988-1993, he was a lecturer at the College of Photography at ZPAF in Warsaw. Author of the Anthology of Polish Photography 1839-1989 (1999). In 1996 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. In 2007, he received the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis, as well as the Katarzyna Kobro. The International Federation of Photographic Art awarded Jerzy Lewczyński the honorary title of FIAP-AFIAP ARTIST.
