The painting depicts a shell, the snail's dwelling, which it has abandoned. The shell is now inhabited by a 'different' life, a new life. This is indicated by the smoke rising from the final appendage of the shell as if from a chimney....
The shell now functions in a different position - vertically, along with the other shells, which, like houses, stand above the horizon.
Starting over is a natural aspect of life, where every moment is a new beginning and every decision opens up new possibilities. It is a constant 'becoming' in which we never reach a final state, but are always in the process of creation.
