‘In Arms Angel’ is a thoughtful and moving piece of art that explores the theme of security and comfort. The drawing, rendered in fine pen and ink, captures the moment when a guardian angel enfolds his beloved in his arms for protection. Where is this angel? You can’t see the wings. But you can see the outstretched arms. They are so widely spread that they do not fit into the drawing format. I have a rectangle of paper at my disposal. In this format, I want to show a situation that does not fit in the space given to me. That is why I use cropping. I cut off the arms, and let the viewer imagine for themselves how they end. In what gesture did they stop? Are the hands spread out with the arms? Or do they bend towards the figure of the woman? As if they were enclosing her in a safe circle? Or are they perhaps tilted backward? This is for the viewer to decide for themselves. The woman folds her arms over her breasts and hugs her hips. As if she wants to feel her body, to affirm her presence in this safe space. This is a drawing about a sense of security. He provides it for her. He is bigger and stronger, she is smaller and more delicate. This is how a man differs from a woman. When he extends his care to her, he becomes an angel for her, and she can feel like in arms angel. Now, is the time of being secure.
